Brief therapy focuses on a specific topic in which the customer needs a change, such as sleeplessness or moving forward in a difficult relationship. The majority of customers who go to brief therapy at occupational health’s initiative feel like their ability to work has increased during brief therapy.
Mieli’s Pihlajalinna’s brief therapy can be accessed via the Worry in Mind mental health line (in Finnish) or your own occupational health team.
What does brief therapy consist of?
At the beginning of a brief therapy period, the customer and professional form a clear goal, the process of which is monitored. The purpose of the discussions is to find the root cause of the problem and plan behaviour that helps resolve the root cause in a constructive manner. Brief therapy can offer support for, among other things, sleeplessness, life management challenges, difficult life experiences or relationships, planning longer periods of psychotherapy or weight management.
In general, 5–10 discussion sessions are needed. In between the sessions, the issues are processed independently with the help of exercises, for example. The professional is a Worry in Mind nurse who has been trained in brief therapy.
Positive customer experiences from brief therapy
The majority of customers who have participated in Mieli’s Pihlajalinna’s brief therapy feel that they can cope with their symptoms better than before the sessions.
Occupational health customers feel that their ability to work is nearly 2 units higher (on a scale of 0 to 10) at the end of brief therapy compared to before. In other words, the experienced ability to work improved drastically.
Most customers feel that they have also benefitted in other ways, for example, by having a stronger sense of control and peace.
“I received an enormous amount of help and tips to develop myself and help me cope. I feel so much better compared to how I felt at my first session. My brief therapy nurse was very professional and found the exact measures and tips needed to help the customer. I am grateful that I got to experience this. I highly recommend it to anyone who needs help.”
