Finnish Ice Hockey Association

The secret behind the wellbeing of the Finnish Ice Hockey Association’s staff is passion for ice hockey and preventive occupational healthcare

”It is important for us to ensure that the health and wellbeing of our employees is our top priority and we are pleased that we have been able to provide high quality and flexible occupational healthcare services together with Pihlajalinna.  Our cooperation has been great and we have received valuable support in planning preventive occupational healthcare.”

The Finnish Ice Hockey Association is a sports organisation that was founded in 1929 with the aim of promoting ice hockey in Finland from junior to top level. Ice hockey unites Finns regardless of their background, and we want to bring content to everyone’s daily life and celebrations. The Finnish Ice Hockey Association moves Finnish people both physically and emotionally throughout their lives and brings both economic prosperity and social wellbeing to many regions.

The association has 70 permanent employees throughout Finland. We also increase this number by 10–20 employees during the World Cup period. We are a regional organisation that operates in 8 different regions in Finland, each employing at least a few members of our staff. Our northernmost office is located in Rovaniemi, but the vast majority of our staff operates in the Helsinki metropolitan area. We work in the offices, as well as in the ice hockey field depending on activity. We employ a few groups of special interest, such as coaches and maintainers who work in cold conditions, which requires us to take into account the challenges posed by ice.

The cooperation with Pihlajalinna has been great and supportive towards the operations of the Finnish Ice Hockey Association

We are delighted that our first year as a client of Pihlajalinna has been a highly positive experience. Our cooperation has been excellent and we are particularly happy that changing our previous partner to Pihlajalinna went even better than we expected. The support that we received during this change and the help with communicating the occupational healthcare services to our staff were extremely valuable.

From the very beginning of our partnership, we have been able to improve our work-life balance together with Pihlajalinna’s occupational healthcare and we have received a surprising amount of support and flexibility in practical matters. Communication with Pihlajalinna has been very smooth.

Pihlajalinna’s occupational health partnership supports the wellbeing of our staff

We have a wide range of occupational healthcare services available to us, such as physiotherapy and mental health services. We promote work ergonomics in cooperation with the physiotherapist at Pihlajalinna occupational health.

We monitor the motivation and wellbeing of our staff with surveys. Our passion for ice hockey supports our staff’s wellbeing at work, and the results of the surveys have been exceptionally great. Occupational healthcare enables us to get help with any mental health challenges that we may face at work and in personal life. We have had a low-threshold Worry in Mind mental health line available for use since the beginning.

Pihlajalinna’s occupational healthcare partnership supports the wellbeing of our staff. We have had very few cases involving long-term challenges. However, if such cases arise, we have designated channels and means to tackle any potential issues with the occupational healthcare.
